Protocol Engineer
Solayer Labs
About Solayer Solayer is the leading restaking network on Solana, empowering decentralized applications (dApps) with optimized network bandwidth while simultaneously securing Solana’s Layer 1. Our mission is to help dApps on Solana achieve higher block space allocation and ensure prioritized transaction inclusion, fostering a robust and secure blockchain ecosystem.
The Role We are seeking an experienced Protocol Engineer with a strong background in low-level programming, Rust, and blockchain economics design. In this role, you will be at the forefront of designing, analyzing, and implementing core mechanisms that drive Solayer’s platform. You’ll contribute to critical infrastructure, from transaction ordering to staking mechanisms, helping to ensure our platform remains at the cutting edge of decentralized technology.
What You Will Do
- Core Development: Design, implement, and maintain backend features that support Solayer’s infrastructure, focusing on low-level programming for optimal performance.
- Rust Programming: Write, test, and deploy robust code in Rust, ensuring high performance and reliability of Solayer’s backend infrastructure.
- Performance Optimization: Identify and resolve bottlenecks to maximize platform efficiency, prioritizing low-latency transaction processing.
- Mechanism Design: Develop and analyze mechanisms across various domains, such as transaction ordering, (re)staking economics, spam prevention, etc.
- Research & Documentation: Keep up-to-date with advancements in blockchain mechanism design and synthesize insights into best practices. Document findings for both internal and external stakeholders.
Nice to Haves
- Deep understanding of Solana native features, such as SPL and transaction processing.
- Experience with other low-level programming languages.
- Familiarity with blockchain security best practices and experience with secure coding practices.
- Strong engineering and architectural understanding of blockchain economic design.
- Expertise in:
- Transaction Ordering and MEV: Understanding of Miner/Maximal Extractable Value (MEV) dynamics.
- Staking and Economic Security: Familiarity with delegation economics, slashing conditions, and stake pool design.
- Consensus Mechanisms: Proficiency in pBFT, Tendermint, Gasper, PoH, and other consensus algorithms.
- Spam Prevention: Knowledge of light clients, Merkle proofs, and security guarantees across L1s and rollups.
